Following Her CallingLindsey Nemcek’s journey to her current career in higher education began back in her days as a student at St. John’s. When Lindsey was introduced to creative writing in her language arts classes at St. John's, she immediately knew she wanted to become a written storyteller. After graduating from St. John’s in 2002, Lindsey shifted to a public school setting and attended an International Baccalaureate program. She went on to graduate at the top of her high school class of nearly 500 students. When asked about her success, Lindsey states, “The small class sizes and excellent teachers [at St. John’s] gave me the individual attention I needed to succeed.” She credits St. John’s for the confidence the school gave her from the start. After graduating from high school, Lindsey was ready to dive further into her passion for writing. She attended DePaul University in Chicago and earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in journalism from there. Fast forward to today. Lindsey is currently the Public Relations Manager at College of Lake County, where she fosters the institution’s relationship with the community through sharing strategic information about college programs and events. She is putting her writing skills to good use by gathering stories about students who have overcome difficulties with the help of the college’s support. In regards to the students, she says, “Their success stories fuel my work every day.” Lindsey is passionate about making a positive impact in the community where she lives. Every day, her work brings higher education to more residents in Lake County. She values inclusive and equitable practices so everyone can have the opportunity to better their lives by earning credentials that provide a living wage. In addition to working in higher education, Lindsey is also continuing her educational journey by pursuing her national accreditation in public relations (APR). After earning her APR, Lindsey hopes to continue her upward career path and become the Chief Communications Officer for a higher educational institution. She is excited to continue serving college students and help her local community. Outside of her successful tenure working in public relations and marketing, Lindsey is proud to be celebrating a decade of marriage to a fellow St. John's alum, Eric Nemcek ('01). Together, they have built a wonderful life in Antioch, IL along with their five-year-old son, Leigh, and are raising him in a home full of Christian empathy. In addition to working and spending time with her family, Lindsey is a registered yoga teacher and loves practicing mind-body work with young yogis. Today, Lindsey treasures every chance she gets to visit St. John’s. She fondly remembers performing in the annual Christmas pageants as well as learning to bowl in the school’s bowling alley. She still maintains close friendships with many of her fellow St. John’s classmates and enjoys looking back on wonderful moments together. When asked what advice she would give to current St. John’s students, Lindsey says, “Always be kind, do the right thing and ask for help. The world becomes a better place when people do these things every day.” We are proud of Lindsey and her faithful dedication to her calling in Christ. We know that she will continue to do good work for His kingdom, wherever He leads!
