Meet our 2nd Grade Teacher!~ Why did you decide to become a teacher?
"I love learning, and I get to share that passion with my students. By teaching, I get to learn more every day, not just about the world God has so graciously given us, but also about my students and their interests. Their curiosity is inspiring!" ~What do you like about teaching 2nd grade? "Second graders are super! They're sweet like first graders with a dash more independence, and they enjoy school and exploring the blessings and workings of God's creation." ~What do you like to do in your free time? "In the summer, I love to spend time at the water park. I enjoy walking and hiking, and we try to make it to a few baseball games, rooting for the Joliet Slammers (minor leagues) and my beloved Cubs. I love to read and especially enjoy writing for fun, but my favorite thing to do is to spend time with my grandchildren." ~What is something you love about St. John's? "People might say their favorite thing about any organization is the family feel you get, but it is absolutely true at St. John's. The care and support we receive and give to our families is something not every school has in the way that we do. It's truly a Christ-centered, family-oriented learning community, and that's just one reason why some families have been a part of St. John's for several generations, and is why many of our teachers have spent their careers here." ~Do you have a favorite book? "My favorite children's books are The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors by Drew Daywalt, and Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs, by Mo Willems. For more grown-up fun reads, I enjoy Julie Garwood and Nora Roberts." ~What is something that might surprise us about you? "As a teenager, I flew both a sailplane and a tethered hot-air balloon solo. I was also a part-time firefighter/paramedic before I became a teacher."
