Spiritual FormationAs a Christian school, our faith in Jesus Christ is at the forefront of everything we do. Each class prays together, memorizes weekly Bible verses, and students are exposed to age-appropriate Bible stories every day. Students in grades 1-8 also participate in Religion classes four times a week, where they dive deeper into the Bible and are encouraged to grow in their own faith.
As a part of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), our lessons and chapel services align with the doctrines outlined by the church. We've highlighted a few of our core beliefs below, but please visit our church website or the LCMS website for further information regarding what we believe and teach. The LCMS website also has a FAQ page that dives into specific questions you might have. |
About God
We believe in the Holy Trinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost - three distinct persons but of one and the same divine essence. |
About Jesus
We believe that Jesus is true God and true man in one person. He is the Son of God who was crucified and raised from the dead for the salvation of all who trust in Him. |
About the Bible
The Bible is the true and trustworthy Word of God that records God’s love for the world through His Son Jesus. |
About Salvation
We believe that Jesus died and rose from the dead for the forgiveness of our sins, and all who trust in Jesus as their Savior will rise to eternal life in heaven. |
During Wednesday morning chapel services, students worship together through music, prayer, and scripture readings and lessons. Each grade has the opportunity to lead chapel and students often play instruments, sing songs, and act out Bible stories as a part of these student-led services. We also regularly invite guest speakers from neighboring churches and ministries, and students have the opportunity to learn about various ministries from all over the Chicagoland area.
Chapel FamiliesChapel Families are a special part of each child's faith formation at St. John's. When a student enters St. John's, they are assigned a Chapel Family that they are a part of throughout their entire time at St. John's. Chapel Families are comprised of students and teachers from all different grades. During chapel, students sit and worship together in their Chapel Families and once a month, they participate in team building and service-oriented activities together. During Lutheran Schools Week, Chapel Families participate in friendly competitions and students cheer on members of their own Chapel Family. Chapel Families help students of all ages learn from each other and grow in their faith throughout their time at St. John's.
"I know that St. John's isn't a Christian school in name only. His name is actually preached in the classroom, and Avie's teacher actually prays for her." - Charis M., current parent |
